Author and Educator Releases New Book
Austin News.Net
Sunday 20th June, 2010
AUSTIN, TX – June 17, 2010 - Author and educational expert Author Professor David Floyd has released his book entitled, Through My Mother’s Tears that is now available for purchase. He opens up his life and shares 20 years of the educational dilemma of an African American boys’ burning desire to overcome insurmountable obstacles of poverty and disparity through blood, sweat, and tears. This is his passion and contribution toward an effort to a better educational system.
Although he is a successful and educated man, he is an example of the modern day abused child. The book explores his disparity and the many people in his life who subjected him to unfair treatment, mockery and abandonment. Low teacher expectations, negative peer pressure, and poor parental involvement contributed to his learning predicament and graduating high school functionally illiterate.
David is a member of “Black Men United for Reading and Writing” an organization that encourages black teenagers to get involved in literature and writing. His book is a model of success and is worth the price of the book. I would encourage “Through My Mother’s Tears” for all educators, parents, and community residents concerned about the future education of African American children.
David Floyd is a full time faculty member at Austin Community College. He teaches courses in accounting designed for freshman and sophomore students and CPA candidates. David received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accountant from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. He then went on to receive his Master of Science in Accounting in 1996 for Bentley University in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2008, he passed the qualifying examinations for the Doctorate Degree from Argosy University.

Why David Can't Read: And What You Can Do about It?
Hi there,
If you’re looking for a good book, you definitely want to check out "Through My Mother's Tears", an autobiography of David Floyd. This book shows the struggles he confronted living in the poverty stricken east end section of Freeport TX and how he overcame obstacles. I realize that most of you are thinking, “The last thing I want to read is a book about a discouraged African American male,” but I assure you that you won’t be disappointed. The literary quality alone is the worth the price of the book ($16.95 at Amazon). You can purchase at http://www.findthewinnerinyou.com/bookorder.html
I'm anxious to hear what you think of this book. Meanwhile, enjoy your day,

What can we do to improve our schools?
The most pressing social issue affecting our children's future is Illiteracy. What can we do to improve our schools?

What is your ROI for our children?
What is your ROI for our children? Read Often to Improve (ROI). What have you invested in our children? Children who read at home are generally much more successful in school, than those who do not. The easiest way to raise a child's grades, self-esteem, and reading level is to read with them. The extra benefit is that whenever you spend quality time with a child, that child feels special and well loved. David Floyd has a testimony at http://www.findthewinnerinyou.com/ .

Child Literacy
More than any other single skill, the ability to read - and read well - allows a child to succeed in school, learn about the world, function in society, and someday have good job options. WHAT CAN WE DO TO IMPROVE OUR SCHOOLS?

Invictus
OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years Finds,
and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
William Ernest Henley. 1849–1903

KIDS READ 20
Encourage our kids to get their 20 minutes of reading aloud every day. By reading aloud from birth through high school, we can help bridge the literacy gap and can improve their interest in and attitudes toward reading and improve their fundamental literacy skills. Reading aloud helps build a child’s self-esteem and confidence.

Through My Mother's Tears
Autobiography of David Floyd
Nothing in life has ever come easy for me, not even birth judging from the facts Mama told me in later life. It all started on Highway 288 as the ambulance screamed up the highway with sirens blaring. Mama was stretched out in the back with an attendant monitoring her blood pressure and heartbeat. My Daddy sat next to her stroking her forehead and offering comfort, telling her to hold on just a little bit longer. Soon they would be in Galveston at the hospital and in the delivery room. It would be the only time that he would be there for her.
Like most shrimpers who arrived in Freeport in the spring, he would be around for only the summer months and then off to Florida to spend the rest of the year. Most of the men dropped by the east end of Freeport, which was the Black section of town, to drink, fight, party, and then take off. And always leave babies behind. There were a lot of shrimpers in Mama’s life, and none of them ever lasted. Daddy was only one of many.
“We’re losing her,” the attendant shouted to the driver through the window. “We still have a ways to go and her pressure is out of control.” “Do something, damit,” Daddy screamed at the attendant. Mama lay there quietly in excruciating labor pains. It was probably one of the only times she remained absolutely still and quiet. My memories of her are of constant screaming, cussing, and beating all of us. Finally, she tried to rise up, but fell back and lost consciousness.

Time To Win In Twenty Ten
Time To Win In Twenty Ten
I love helping anyone in a very productive manner.
I will never forget the people who have shown an interest in my life; past, present or future.
Some people are very instrumental in your life. Whether it is good, bad or ugly.
You will learn something from each and everyone one of them, even if you don't realize it at the moment.
Life as a professor is very rewarding. My day never ends and is always fulfilling.
I live by my motto:
"I will NOT measure my success by monetary values, but the contributions to another person’s success." ~ David Floyd ~
